Who we are

My name is Jay Whittaker. I’m an actor in the process of making my first feature film. I’ve been an actor in front of the camera, but now am exploring the other side. Why? Why would I subject myself the the grueling slog of making a film? Well, the story that came through me when I wrote it is deeply important. It’s a topic that has fallen away in our cultural discourse and we never really had a good conversation about it in the first place. That conversation is the dissolution of #MeToo and the fact that it has been seen as purely a women’s movement. There needs to be a dialogue and it’s time to bring it back. Enter Bottom’s Dream the film.

THE SHORT

It started in an acting class. We were given an assignment to write a short film for a few of our classmates. I chose Nigel and Rachael. Knowing them only through a few things they had said about themselves, I sat down and wrote what turned out to be a fun little scene. When they read it in class and brought their selves to it, I realized it could actually be something. I decided I wanted it to be more than an short shot on an iphone, so I reached out to all of the filmmakers I knew, asked for lots of favors and voila.

I was pretty proud of it for a first film. I entered it into some festivals and was excepted into a few! That’s when the journey really began, see THE FEATURE page to learn more.
